Google ranks pages. ChatGPT answers a question with a few named businesses and a reason for each one. It reads your pages, your reviews and what other sites say about you, then picks the businesses it can explain.
That is why a competitor with a weaker Google ranking can be named first. Some agencies still tell owners ChatGPT isn’t a search engine and not to worry about it. Their customers are already asking it.
