SEO for plumbers, built around the calls that can't wait
Blocked drains, burst pipes and no hot water do not get searched the way
anything else does. We build the pages, the profile and the trust signals
that win those searches, as a one-off project from $3,500. Plumbing is
the trade we have worked in longest.
Emergency searches and planned-work searches are not the same customer
Treating every plumbing keyword the same way is why most plumbing sites
convert badly. The person with water coming through the ceiling and the
person costing a bathroom renovation want completely different things from
the page they land on. Both matter, and each needs its own answer.
Emergency
It is happening right now
blocked drain [suburb]
burst pipe emergency plumber
hot water not working
What they do
Phone in one hand, water on the floor or a cold shower running. They tap the first result that shows a number and names their exact problem. They are not comparing three quotes.
What the page has to give them
The job named in the heading, a tappable phone number above the fold, the suburbs you cover, and something that proves you will actually turn up.
Same week
Annoying, not flooding
leaking tap repair
toilet not flushing
hot water system replacement cost
What they do
They will look at two or three plumbers and actually read a bit. Price context, reviews and a sense of what the job involves all get weighed before anyone picks up the phone.
What the page has to give them
A page for that specific job: what it usually involves, what moves the price, and a way to book or ask without having to ring during work hours.
Planned work
Weeks of thinking
bathroom renovation plumber
gas fitting
rainwater tank installation
What they do
Several visits, often from different devices, spread over weeks. They are choosing a business to trust with a big job, not looking for a quick fix.
What the page has to give them
The work shown, the scope explained, the licence and insurance visible, and an enquiry path that survives a slow decision instead of expiring with the session.
// THE REAL COMPETITION
You are not competing with plumbers, you are competing with directories
Search a plumbing job plus your suburb and count how many results are
actually plumbing businesses. A large share of the page belongs to
directories and lead resellers, sitting above the trades they sell to.
Those sites are not competing for the job. They are competing for the
enquiry, which they then sell to several plumbers at once, including
you, at your own expense.
You will not beat them on domain strength and there is no point trying.
You beat them on specificity. A directory page for plumbers in a suburb
is a template with a form on it, written by nobody, about no particular
job. A page that names the exact work, explains what it involves, shows
your own photos and carries your licence number is a better answer to
that search, and it puts the enquiry in your inbox whole.

// SITE ARCHITECTURE
One page per job, not one page listing every job
This is the single most common thing holding a plumbing site back. Google
ranks pages, not businesses. A page headed "Our Services" that mentions
blocked drains in one bullet is a weak answer to a blocked drain search.
A page that spends its whole length on blocked drains is a strong one.

Service areas
A suburb you genuinely work in
The next suburb you genuinely work in
Each service page links up to the hub and across to the two or three
jobs most related to it, so a customer who searched for a leaking tap
finds the hot water page without hunting for it. The hub links down to
all of them. That structure tells Google which page owns which search
instead of leaving three of your own pages arguing over it.
Location pages only exist where you genuinely work and have something
specific to say about working there. A page per postcode with the suburb
name swapped is doorway spam, and it risks the rest of the site.
// MAP PACK
Google Business Profile when you have a service area, not a shopfront
Most plumbers do not have a counter customers walk into, which changes how
the profile has to be set up. Get this wrong and you either show up in the
wrong suburbs or you do not show up in the map pack at all, which is where
a lot of emergency calls are won before anyone scrolls.
Primary category set to Plumber, with secondary categories only for work you genuinely do. Categories move the map pack more than almost anything else on the profile.
Service area set to the suburbs you actually travel to, with the street address hidden. A plumber working out of a ute and a home garage should not be publishing a residential address.
Every service listed individually on the profile so it mirrors the service pages on the site, and the two reinforce each other instead of telling Google different stories.
Real photos of real jobs, added regularly. Stock images of a stranger holding a wrench do nothing for you and customers can spot them instantly.
Business name, address and phone number identical everywhere they appear: the site, the profile, and the directories you are already listed in. Inconsistency is a quiet, common drag on local rankings.
A review request that runs after every completed job, so the profile keeps collecting recent reviews instead of one cluster from two years ago.
If getting reviews in consistently is the part that never happens, that is
a system rather than a habit. See
our review system.
// TRUST SIGNALS
Your licence number is a ranking asset, not fine print
Plumbing is licensed work, and that is one of the few advantages you hold
over a directory. Directories cannot produce a licence number, insurance
or a photo of last Tuesday's job. Use the things only a real business has.
Put the licence number where it can be read
Your plumbing licence number belongs in the site footer, on the contact page and on the Google Business Profile, as real text rather than baked into a logo image. It is a hard credential a directory listing cannot fake, and both customers and search engines can read it.
Back it with details that can be checked
Registered business name, ABN, insurance, the association memberships you actually hold, and the suburbs you genuinely cover. Consistent, checkable details are what separate a real plumbing business from a lead-gen page dressed up as one.
Reviews that mention the job
A five-star with no words says less than a review that names the actual work. Ask the question in a way that prompts the detail, and your review text starts matching the language people are searching with.

Plumbing is the trade we have spent the most time in. These are real
relationships, and you can go and look at both.

we have written permission to share their numbers.] We will not put
results on this page that we have not been cleared to publish.

itself is the bottleneck rather than the search visibility, start with
websites for plumbers
instead and put the search work on top of it afterwards.
// QUESTIONS
Straight answers before you ask
Not sure whether search or something else is the right spend for your plumbing business right now? Ask us directly and we'll tell you honestly, even when the answer is not yet.
From $3,500. That is a one-off project price for a defined scope, not a monthly retainer. The exact figure moves with how many services and suburbs the plan covers, and you get it in writing before any work starts.
Should I have one services page or a page for every job?
A page for every job you want to be found for. Google ranks pages, not businesses. A page headed "Our Services" that mentions blocked drains in one bullet is a weak answer to someone searching for a blocked drain. A page that spends its whole length on blocked drain clearing is a strong one, and it can rank while the rest of the site keeps doing its own work.
How do I compete against hipages and the other directories?
Not on domain strength, because you will not win that. You win by being more specific than a directory ever bothers to be: the exact job, what it involves, what it usually costs to sort, the suburbs you cover, your licence number and photos of your own work. A directory page is a template with a form on it. A real plumber writing about the actual job is a better answer to the search, and the enquiry arrives whole instead of being sold to three of your competitors at once.
Do suburb pages work for plumbers?
Only when they are real. A page for a suburb you genuinely work in, with local jobs, local landmarks and honest detail, can rank and convert. Forty near-identical pages with the suburb name swapped is doorway spam, Google has been dealing with that pattern for years, and it can drag the whole site down. We build the ones that are worth building and tell you which ones are not.
How long until it starts bringing in calls?
Months, not days. New pages have to be crawled, indexed, then tested by Google against whatever is already ranking. Map pack and local movement usually shows first, competitive service terms take longer. We will not promise you a position or a date, because nobody controls Google and anyone claiming otherwise is guessing.
Do I need a new website before you can do the SEO?
Not always. If your site is fast, editable and can take new pages, we work with what you have. If it is slow, locked down, or built on something that fights every change, a new site is the better first spend and the search work goes on top of it afterwards. We tell you which of those you are before you commit to anything.
