Google Ads for plumbers, built for emergency calls
Google Ads for plumbers is paid search built around the moment something
breaks: a blocked drain, a burst pipe, no hot water. The account splits
emergency jobs from planned work, tracks every call, and only runs when
someone answers the phone. Web Blend runs it for $650/month + GST.
Emergency, planned and waste: each gets treated differently
Most plumbing accounts that leak money lump every search into one ad
group. These three buckets have different intent, different job values and
different click costs, so they get their own budgets and pages.
EMERGENCY · BID HARD
Water on the floor right now
emergency plumber [suburb]
blocked drain plumber
burst pipe repair
blocked toilet plumber
no hot water
leaking hot water system
Short searches, a phone in one hand, a decision in minutes. These carry the highest intent and usually the dearest clicks. The ad has to offer a call and the page has to load fast on mobile data.
PLANNED · BID FOR VALUE
Quoted work worth more per job
hot water system replacement
heat pump hot water install
gas hot water installation
relining blocked sewer
bathroom renovation plumber
backflow testing
The customer compares quotes, so forms and quote requests count alongside calls. Job values are often higher, which is where a bigger cost per lead can still pay.
WASTE · BLOCK EARLY
Searches that will never book
plumbing apprenticeship
plumber salary
how to unblock a drain
drain snake bunnings
plumbing supplies near me
plumbing course
Job seekers, DIY fixes and supplier searches look like plumbing traffic and never become a job. They go on the negative list before launch, then we keep adding from the search terms report.
Example search terms only. Your list is built from live volume and click
costs in your own suburbs before launch.
// CALLS, NOT FORMS
Call-only ads are ending, and Local Services Ads are not here
Two things plumbers get told about Google that do not hold in Australia
in 2026. Both change how the calls should be set up.
Call-only ads: Google removed the option to create new
call ads in February 2026. Existing ones stop getting impressions in
February 2027. The replacement is a responsive search ad with a call
asset, which can show a call button and a website link. We build that
now, with call reporting on and a minimum call length, so a hang-up
is not counted as a lead.
Local Services Ads: the Google Guaranteed badge you see
on overseas plumber searches is not available in Australia. Google runs
it in eleven countries and has not announced a date here. The signals
that would rank it, reviews and how often you answer, already decide
the Australian map pack. So the play is search ads plus a strong
Google Business Profile.
After-hours plumbing calls can be the best jobs in the week. They are
also the easiest way to waste budget, because a click at 11pm that rings
out is paid for and gone.
Match the schedule to the roster. Ads and call assets run in the hours a plumber is on call. If nobody answers after 9pm, the emergency campaign stops at 9pm.
Split after-hours work out. Where you do take night and weekend callouts, those hours get their own bids and ad copy, so the after-hours rate is clear before they ring.
Catch the call you miss. A missed call from an ad should get a text back straight away, not a voicemail. See missed call text back for tradies.
Move planned work to business hours. Hot water replacements and quoted jobs can take forms overnight and get called first thing.
// THE MATHS
Job value against click cost, worked through
Plumbing clicks are dear. What matters is whether the jobs they book
cover them. Here is the sum we run before setting a budget.
Cost per click$20
Clicks per genuine call or form8
Cost per lead$160
Leads per booked job2
Cost per booked job$320
These numbers are an illustration, not a benchmark or a client
result. The point is the shape of the sum. At $320 a booked
job, a small blocked-drain callout may not pay for its click, while a
hot water replacement can. So budget moves toward the jobs that carry
the cost, and the cheap jobs either get a tighter radius or a lower bid.
A plumbing business we have looked after for close to three years.
We build and host the website, make the video and run the Google Ads
with tracking wired in, all pointed at the same service offer and
contact paths.
We also built a fast site and set up Google Ads with conversion tracking
for Bay Plumbing & Drainage.
We do not publish lead or job figures for either business, because we do
not yet have written permission to share their numbers.
// PRICING
$650/month + GST, ad spend paid straight to Google
Management is $650/month + GST, the same every month. It covers
the build, the emergency and planned campaigns, negatives, call and form
tracking, the landing pages and plain-English reporting. Your ad budget
is separate, set by you and paid to Google. It makes sense from about
$1,500 a month of ad spend.
Already running ads? Start with the
Google Ads audit for tradies
at $290 + GST. You get recorded videos of where the budget is going, and
the fee is credited against eligible implementation work.
Yes. Plumbing is one of the clearest fits for Google Ads, because the customer searches at the moment something breaks and wants a plumber now. It works when emergency and planned jobs are split, calls are tracked, ads only run when someone answers, and the click lands on a page about that job.
Can plumbers get Google Local Services Ads or Google Guaranteed in Australia?
No. As of August 2026 Google runs Local Services Ads in eleven countries and Australia is not one of them, with no launch date announced. Australian plumbers run normal search ads with call assets, and build the reviews and answer rate that drive the map pack today.
Should plumbers use call-only ads?
Not for new campaigns. Google removed the option to create call ads in February 2026, and existing call ads stop receiving impressions in February 2027. The replacement is a responsive search ad with a call asset, scheduled for the hours your phone is answered, with call reporting switched on.
Should plumbing ads run 24 hours a day?
Only if someone answers 24 hours a day. An emergency click at 11pm that rings out is paid for and lost. We schedule ads and call assets to the hours you actually take calls, and adjust bids for after-hours slots only when there is a plumber on call to go.
How much do Google Ads cost for a plumber?
Your ad budget is paid straight to Google and set by you. Web Blend's management is $650/month + GST, the same every month. It makes sense from about $1,500 a month of ad spend. Click costs vary by suburb and by job, so the budget is set from your job values and live click costs, not a flat daily figure.
Can Google Ads track which plumbing jobs were actually booked?
Yes, if your job system can send the outcome back. Calls and forms are tracked from the ad click, and for plumbers on ServiceM8 we can match completed jobs back to Google Ads, so bidding learns from paid work rather than every enquiry.
