Contact form stopped working? Find out what broke and what you missed
A contact form that has stopped working looks normal to visitors but no longer gets their enquiry to you, so nothing errors and the only sign is that enquiries go quiet. It happens after plugin and website updates, email password changes, mailbox moves and spam filter changes. Web Blend builds lead forms for trade and service businesses as a ServiceM8 Bronze Partner that runs GoHighLevel in-house. We fix the form, then watch for the next quiet spell.

// TEST IT NOW
Test your contact form in five minutes
Do this from your phone, on mobile data, not the office Wi-Fi.
- Open your contact page and wait a full 10 seconds. Does the form appear every time? Reload twice.
- Send a test enquiry. Use a name like “TEST” and today’s date, and a phone number you’ll recognise. Note the time.
- Watch the button. Does it say it was sent, or keep spinning? Does a “verification failed” message appear?
- Check every place it should land within 10 minutes: your inbox, your spam or junk folder, your job system or CRM, and any spreadsheet the form writes to.
- Check the saved entries. Some form builders keep a copy of each entry on the website even when the email fails (Flamingo does it for Contact Form 7). If your test is there but not in your inbox, the form works and the email doesn’t.
If any step fails, your form has stopped working. Repeat the test once a month and after every website update.
// WHY
Why a contact form stops working without an error
A form that stops sending produces no error anywhere. Nothing runs, so nothing fails, so the only signal is silence. Owners find out when a customer rings to ask why nobody replied, or when they notice the enquiries stopped weeks ago. Reports on the WordPress and Wix support forums follow the same pattern.
The usual causes, roughly in the order we find them:
- An update changed something. A plugin, theme, WordPress or PHP update leaves the form spinning or sending nothing.
- The email connection dropped. Forms that send through a Gmail or Microsoft login stop when that connection expires or the password changes.
- The mailbox moved. A new domain, host or email provider, and the form still sends to the old address.
- It goes to spam. The form sends, but your inbox files it as junk because the website isn’t authorised to send email for your domain.
- The spam blocker blocks people. A captcha that fails to load stops real customers along with the bots.
- Only one copy, and it went nowhere. The admin email stops while the customer’s confirmation still sends, so the customer thinks it worked.
On WordPress, the most common case has its own page: Contact Form 7 not sending emails. Moved your domain or email lately? See email not working after a domain transfer.
// HOW WE STOP IT
Three guards on every form we watch
Never one destination
Every enquiry lands in your job system, ServiceM8 or whatever you run, and in two backups: a row in a spreadsheet, and an email to an inbox you actually watch. If one fails, the other two still have it.
An alert when the forms go quiet
An n8n automation watches for submissions. If none arrive for a set period, for example 3 days, it alerts us. We test the form. If it’s broken, we fix it and help you follow up anyone who tried.
A delivered check on forms we build
On the forms we build, the enquiry isn’t counted, sent to your CRM or reported to Google until the delivery service confirms it accepted it. If the connection drops part-way, the form falls back to a plain submission instead of losing what the customer typed.
More on how our forms prove delivery: what our website forms capture. It’s the same approach we use on automations: automation monitoring for small business.
// PRICING
Automation Rescue + Watch: fix it, then watch it
$490 + GST for the fix, the backups and the alert, then $49/month + GST to keep it watched. More on the watching side at contact form monitoring.
Who should not buy this: if your test enquiry arrived everywhere it should and enquiries are still down, the form isn’t the problem. Read why your website isn’t getting leads instead. If your site runs on a platform you can’t log into (some agency platforms keep the account), we can test and advise, but the fix has to go through whoever holds the login.

// QUESTIONS
Questions owners ask
Not sure whether it’s the form or the traffic? Tell us your website and when enquiries went quiet.
Ask usHow do I know if my contact form has stopped working?
Send yourself a test enquiry from your phone and check your inbox, spam folder, job system and the form’s saved entries within 10 minutes. If it’s missing from any of them, it has stopped working somewhere. A sudden drop to zero enquiries with steady website traffic is the other sign.
How many leads have I lost?
Check your form builder’s saved entries first. Some form plugins and website builders keep a copy of each entry even when the email fails, so you can count and contact them. If nothing was saved, compare enquiries per week before and after the date it went quiet. That gap is your estimate.
My customer saw the thank-you message. Why didn’t I get it?
A thank-you message only means the form ran. It doesn’t mean the email reached you. The email can still be refused, filtered as spam or sent to an old address after the customer sees it.
Why do my form emails go to spam?
Usually because your website isn’t authorised to send email for your domain, so inboxes treat it as junk. Sending through an authenticated email service, with your domain’s SPF and DMARC records set, fixes most of it. Check the spam folder now, because real enquiries may already be there.
Should I add a captcha to stop spam?
Only one that loads every time. A captcha that fails to load blocks real customers too, and you won’t see them. Test the form on a phone after adding one.
How much does it cost to fix a contact form that stopped working?
Automation Rescue + Watch is $490 + GST, fixed, for the fix, the backups and the alert, then $49/month + GST to keep it watched. A Contact Form 7 fix on its own is from $290 + GST.
