Quick answer: “my website is not getting leads” is actually two separate problems that get lumped together. Either nobody is finding the site (a traffic problem: no ranking, no ads, no trust signal pulling the click), or people are finding it and leaving without enquiring (a conversion problem: hidden phone number, slow load, no clear call to action, copy that could belong to any tradie). Check your visitor numbers first to work out which one you have, because the fix is completely different for each.
The two problems tradies mix up
“Nobody is calling from the website” gets treated as one problem, but it splits cleanly into two:
- Nobody is finding it. The site exists, it is fine, but almost no one lands on it.
- People find it, then leave. Visitors are arriving, but they are not calling, texting or filling in the form.
These need opposite fixes. Chasing more traffic to a site that cannot convert just means more people see the problem. Fixing conversion on a site nobody visits does nothing either. You need to know which one you actually have before you spend a cent.
How to tell which one you have
Open Google Analytics or Search Console and look at visitor numbers for the last month.
Almost no visitors at all? That is a traffic problem. You are not ranking for the searches that matter, you are not running Google Ads, or your Google Business Profile and reviews are not strong enough to pull the click when you do show up.
A reasonable number of visitors, but the phone barely rings? That is a conversion problem. People are reaching the site and choosing not to act. That is almost always something on the page working against you, not the visitor.
If you have no analytics set up at all, that is worth fixing before anything else. You cannot diagnose what you cannot see.
What causes a traffic problem
- Not ranking in Google. If your site does not appear for the searches your customers actually type, like “electrician Darwin” or “blocked drain Palmerston,” you are invisible for that demand no matter how good the site is.
- No paid search presence. Organic ranking takes months. Google Ads can put you in front of people searching right now while the organic side builds.
- Weak trust signal in the results. Even if you rank or run ads, a thin review profile next to a competitor with fifty reviews means they get the click and you do not.
What causes a conversion problem
- No visible phone number. If a visitor has to scroll or hunt to find a way to contact you, especially on a phone, most will not bother.
- Buried contact details. A contact form three clicks deep, or a phone number in tiny text in the footer, loses people who decided in the moment and moved on.
- Slow load on mobile. Most tradie website visitors are on their phone, often on patchy reception. A page that drags loses people before they see a word of your offer.
- Not built for mobile first. Text too small to read, buttons too close together to tap accurately, a layout that assumes a desktop screen.
- No single clear call to action. A page offering five things at once (call us, email us, get a quote, follow us, book online) gives the visitor a decision to make instead of an obvious next step.
- Stale or generic copy. If the homepage could belong to any tradie in any town, nothing tells the visitor you are the right choice for their specific job.
How Web Blend runs it
If your diagnosis points to conversion, that is exactly what our conversion websites are built for: hand-coded, mobile-first, one clear call to action per page, and fast load times so visitors see your phone number before they lose patience. No bloated templates dragging the page down.
If your diagnosis points to traffic, that is a different fix. Google Ads puts you in front of people searching for your trade right now, and a stronger review profile helps you win the click when you do show up in the results. Most tradies need some of both eventually, but fixing conversion first means every visitor you later pay to attract actually has a chance of becoming a job.
