Google Business Profile change of address, without losing your reviews

A Google Business Profile change of address goes smoothly when Google already believes the new address before you touch the profile. So we change the profile last. Every other place the business shows up online moves first, then we wait about two weeks, then we update Google. In our experience, done in that order, the address change verifies straight away.

Updated October 2026

5.0 from 16 Google reviews

From $590 + GST, confirmed in writing before we start. Your reviews stay on the profile you already have.

Five-step flow: 1 website and its schema moved to the new address, 2 listings and socials in the same spelling and format, 3 wait about two weeks with nobody touching the profile, 4 change the existing profile, never a new one, 5 check reviews, map pin and calls held Example
Example: the order we move a profile in. Everything else moves first, the profile changes last. Illustration, not a Google screen.

// WHY IT GOES WRONG

Why Google questions an address change

Side by side: profile changed first, with the website and listings still showing the old address, leads to verification loops and suspensions; profile changed last, with every other listing already showing the new address, in our experience verifies straight away Example
Example: why the profile changes last. Google decides every verification. Illustration, not a Google screen.

Google’s help on editing a profile says a business that moves after it’s verified has to verify again, and that Google reviews changes before they go live.

In effect Google is asking: you moved this business from there to here, so prove it is really there, and that you are not faking a better location. If the website, Facebook page and directory listings still show the old address, the honest answer looks suspicious. That is when owners get the verification loops and suspensions you read about on the forums.

// THE METHOD

The order we move a profile in

  1. List every asset. Website, the schema in the website code, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram bio, every directory and listing you can log in to, quote and invoice templates, email signatures.
  2. Update all of them to the new address. Same spelling and format everywhere, down to “St” or “Street”.
  3. Leave it for about two weeks. Nobody touches the Google Business Profile in that time.
  4. Change the address on the existing profile. Never a new profile. Service-area businesses that don’t meet customers at the address keep it hidden and update the service area.
  5. Check it held. Reviews, rating, map pin and calls, the day after and 30 days later.

Screenshot your review count, rating and the last 30 days of calls before the change, so you can compare.

// VERIFICATION

If Google asks for a video anyway

Sometimes Google still wants proof. Then we request the video verification and text you the link. You open it at the new premises, on the day, on your own phone with location access allowed, and film one unbroken walk from the road to the desk. The four shots and Google’s rules for the recording are on our video verification page.

// ALREADY MOVED

Already moved and stuck or suspended?

Changed the address first and now it won’t verify, or it’s suspended? The order changes, not the idea. We bring every other listing into line with the new address first, then deal with the verification or the suspension appeal. Don’t create a new profile for the new address in the meantime.

// FIT

Who this isn’t for

  • A virtual office or a mailbox address. Google’s guidelines list virtual offices as ineligible. We won’t move a profile to one.
  • A “better” suburb you don’t work from. The new address has to be where the business really operates.
  • You’d rather run it yourself. The order above is the whole method.

Plan my move
Will I lose my Google reviews if I change my address?

Reviews belong to the profile, so we change the address on the profile you already have rather than starting a new one. The real risks are a second profile for the new address, which Google’s guidelines say not to create, or the edit tipping the profile into verification trouble. Moving every other listing first is how we lower that risk.

Do I have to verify again after changing my address?

Yes. Google’s help says a business that moves after it is verified must verify again. Done in this order, in our experience the re-verification goes through straight away.

How long should I wait between updating my website and changing the Google address?

About two weeks. That gives Google time to see the new address in more than one place before the profile changes.

Why did my profile ask for video verification after I changed the address?

Google is checking the business really operates from the new address. If nothing else online agrees with the new address yet, it has little reason to believe it.

My profile was suspended after an address change. What now?

Don’t create a new profile. Bring every other listing into line with the new address, then appeal with documents that show the business at that address.

I moved to another city and the profile still ranks around the old one. Why?

Old listings, an old address in the website code and a service area that still covers the old area all point Google back. Updating those is the same first step as a move.

Can you guarantee it verifies straight away?

No. Google decides. What we can say is that in our experience a move done in this order verifies straight away, and if Google asks for a video we run it with you on the day.
